The Silencers is a 1966 spy comedy directed by Phil Karlson and stars Dean Martin as Matt Helm, a former superspy who comes out of retirement to foil a plot by an evil organization to incite a nuclear war. The film was released at the height of the James Bond phenomena and its success spawned three sequels: Murderers' Row, The Ambushers and The Wrecking Crew.
Despite the serious tone of the original Donald Hamilton novels which these are very loosely based, this film series were made as parodies of the James Bond genre, akin to the In Like Flint series.
