Volkov-Yartsev VYa-23 - 23x152mmB

VYa-23 is a Soviet 23mm automatic cannon, the main weapon of famous Soviet Il-2 ground attack aircraft. It was designed in 1940 by A.A. Volkov and S.A. Yartsev in TsKB-14 Design Bureau (currently KBP Instrument Design Bureau) purposly for ground attacks, especially for penetrating of tank armour. VYa-23 was mounted on Il-2 and early series of Il-10, and also used on twin and quad naval AA mountings that were accepted into limited production. A total of 64,655 VYa-23 were built. After the gun itself was removed from service, its 23x152 mmB cartridge was accepted for ZU-23 and ZSU-23-4 "Shilka".
