Yes, the reason I reverted it was the other half (you saying he couldn't do that when he could). But just to explain, you're both kind of right there. He's talking specifically about the never-adopted STANAG 4179 (which would have specifically standardised the M16 30-round magazine in NATO weapons), you're talking about the magazine standards which evolved out of that STANAG and instead standardised the dimensions of the M16 magwell in a lot of NATO weapons. Strictly I don't think there was ever a STANAG document regarding 5.56mm magwell dimensions, which is why the G36 and earlier FAMAS iterations aren't compatible with M16-style magazines even though Germany and France are part of NATO.
