"Mark B" name

Where is this "Mark B"/prototype info coming from? As well as the assertion that it doesn't qualify as a pistol sword? Alex T Snow (talk) 19:07, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Source is “Introduction to Rifles, Handguns, and Machine Guns: A Thorough Study of Japanese Small Arms”(小銃・拳銃・機関銃入門―日本の小火器徹底研究) by Sayama Jiro(佐山二郞) Page 196-207. On page 204 the gun in question is specifically called "乙号" which translates to "B Mark" (Japanese writes these in a different order than English, for example Type 99 is "九九式" "9 9 Type"). The pistol sword distinction should be made because there was a Mark B pistol sword before the Mark B pistol with sword, that design used a modified Type B small (Baby Nambu) pistol, so for avoiding confusion and because the author described it as such. Aaaah, I see, I had a feeling this was another one of those cases of localizing "kou/otsu/etc" to "A/B/etc", as using roman letters in designations is rather rare outside of things like Navy aircraft designations (A6M2b, etc). Translating the "gou" suffix to "Model" is consistent with other Japanese translations though, like the Type 99 cannon variants. Thanks for the source, I'll definitely look further into this. The way I learned it is "式 - shiki - type" "型 - kata/gata - model" "号 - gou/gō - mark" kata/gata as model for example on "試製二型機関短銃" "Experimental Model 2 submachine gun". Oh btw fun fact, you did post that page 204 I mentioned yourself xd, first image on this page. Killerwolf (talk) 14:29, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
