Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle is a 2021 biographical drama directed by Arthur Harari. It is based on the true story of Hiroo Onoda, an Imperial Japanese Army intelligence officer who refused to surrender at the end of World War II and spent 29 years holding out in the jungles of the Philippines.

1944: 22-year-old Hiroo Onoda (portrayed by Yuya Endo as a young man and Kanji Tsuda in later age), trained for intelligence duty, discovers a philosophy that runs counter to the official line: no suicide, stay alive no matter what, the mission is more important than anything else. He is sent to Lubang, a small island in the Philippines, where the Americans are about to land, and is to wage a guerrilla war there until the Japanese troops return. But while the war soon ends for the rest of the Japanese army, it continues for Onoda for ten thousand more days.

The following weapons were used in the film Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle:

Nambu Type 14

A Nambu Type 14 is used by Hiroo Onoda (Yûya Endô, Kanji Tsuda) and Iniez (Angeli Bayani).

Nambu Type 14 - 8x22mm Nambu
Young Onoda fires his Nambu at a Filipino.
A frightend Iniez points the Nambu at older Onoda.

Unknown Revolver

Kinshichi Kozuka (Tetsuya Chiba) wields an unknown revolver.

Kozuka holds the revolver received from Onoda...
...and starts aiming it at Iniez.
The grip is seen in the holster.

Arisaka Type 38

All Japanese soldiers in the movie are armed with Arisaka Type 38 rifles.

Arisaka Type 38 - 6.5x50mmSR Arisaka
Shôichi Shimada (Shinsuke Kato), Kinshichi Kozuka (Yûya Matsuura), and Onoda carry their Arisakas.
Onoda aims his rifle and waits for an opportunity to fire.
Shimada emerges from the high grass to take a look where the attackers are.
Older Kozuka holds his Arisaka.
An aged Onoda confronts a stranger.
Norio Suzuki (Taiga Nakano) holds Onoda's rifle while posing for a picture.
After hearing that the war has been over since 1945 from his former Major Taniguchi (Issey Ogata), Onoda desperately unloads his Arisaka in 1974.

Filipino soldiers are seen with SKS rifles.

Simonov SKS - 7.62x39mm
A Filipino soldier armed with an SKS. Note the wider bayonet compared to the Chinese Type 56 carbine. This scene seems to be set around 1945 or 1946. It would be more likely for a Filipino soldier in the immediate post-World War II era to be armed with an American rifle like an M1 Garand or M1903 Springfield.
A Filipino hunter (Jemuel Satumba) aims his SKS.
The hunter tries to unjam his rifle.
