Helen Rachel Slater (born December 15, 1963) is an American actress and singer-songwriter. From 1982, she appeared in about 50 movies and TV series and among her best known roles was as Kara Zor-El in the 1984 feature film adaptation of Supergirl. She would later pay homage to the character by appearing as the stepmother of Kara Danvers in the CW television adaptation of Supergirl.
