Bridge of Spies is a 2015 spy thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and tells the true story of James B. Donovan (portrayed by Tom Hanks), an insurance lawyer recruited by the CIA to represent Rudolf Abel (portrayed by Mark Rylance), a suspected Russian spy and then negotiate the release of Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 pilot working for the US who was shot down and captured by the Russians in 1960. The film would receive Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay and Rylance would receive the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Abel.
