Alien Nation: Dark Horizon is the first of five television films that continued the 1990 TV series Alien Nation. Dark Horizon was meant to be the first episode of the second season, but was not produced due to the series' cancellation. This episode was subsequently rewritten and produced as a television film that aired in 1994. The ratings were high enough to spawn four more TV movies.

Shortly before the showdown, Detective Francisco appears to carry a different pistol in his holster than the S&W 669. It appears here to be a Nickel Plated M1911A1.
