The East (De Oost) (2020)

The East (Dutch: De Oost) is a 2020 Dutch war movie set in the Dutch Civil Aggressions, or "Police actions" as they are known in the Netherlands. The movie is directed by Jim Taihuttu and stars Martijn Lakemeier as Johan de Vries, the son of a Dutch Nazi collaborator who volunteered to fight for the Netherlands in the Aggression of the late 1940s, Marwan Kazari plays the role of Raymond "De Turk" Westerling. The movie takes place near Batavia (which mistakenly gets referred to as Jakarta in the movie a few times) and later moves to (south) Sulawesi.

Handguns

Harrington & Richardson Top Break revolver

Johan (Martijn Lakemeier) uses a Harrington & Richardson Top Break revolver of an unknown caliber in a few scenes.

Johan gets a H&R revolver from The Turk for his first job with him.

Johan receives the H&R revolver from The Turk as a "thank you" gift after the job is done.

Johan inspects his gift revolver.

Nambu Type 14

The Nambu Type 14 also makes a brief appearance in a plantation house.

Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless

One of the more prominently shown pistols in this movie is the Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless pistol, the main sidearms of The Turk

The Turk aims a Colt 1903 pistol at a Japanese soldier.

The Turk carries two 1903 pistols; in this shot, they're laid on his table.

Sten Mk II

The M3 Grease Gun makes a brief appearance in The East.

Johan's main rifle for the movie is the Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III.

A rather bored looking officer gives Johan an SMLE-rifle after signing paperwork.

Johan goes on patrol in Dutch controlled area with his SMLE on his shoulder.

Johan aims his SMLE at a farmer when on guard duty.

Arisaka Type 38

A few Japanese soldiers that harass a civilian carry Arisaka Type 38 rifles.

Johan goes to intervene the Japanese people harassing the man.

It goes south quickly, and all parties draw weapons when The Turk (handling the Colt 1903) joins the conversation.

M1 Garand

The men of the commando battalion take a group photo, proudly showing off their M1 Garands.

The boys proudly take a picture with their new kit, including M1 Garands.

Machine Guns

Bren Mk1

Mattias (Jonas Smulders) carries a Bren machine gun.

Browning M2

On his first night, Johan excitedly mans a Browning M2 HMG against Indonesian insurgents.
