- The book was set in 1984. I guess the movie must be, too. -MT2008
- I could swear that the movie took place in the Early or Mid 1960s. I guess i was wrong.-Oliveira 14:28, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Definitely not. The Red October is a Typhoon-class nuclear sub, and the first of those were commissioned in the early-1980s. Not to mention that the cars, computers, phones, and other stuff seen in this film are definitely from the 80s. -MT2008
