As well as the oddity of US soldiers wielding MP40's I am sure I remember them also in one shot crewing an MG42 as well....

Use of German Weapons

I think the reason they appear in the movie is the possible relative scarcity of the "real thing" while the movie was being filmed. Like most Stanley Kubrick films Strangelove was, other than some stock footage, largely filmed entirely in the UK. Kubrick may have been using whatever was on hand in the UK at the moment. --Charon68 18:49, 20 February 2012 (CST)
