An R8 seen in Season 4, episode 5

Episode is "Thoughts and Prayers". Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie) is given an R8 by Courtney Portnoy for use at Cortney's private gun range. Extremely detailed closeups of this gun are seen, and a few other guns are seen in the background, including an AK-47 or similar AK-style rifle. I've included my screencaps below, but I don't feel confident creating an article yet.

This shot, on Diane's kitchen countertop, takes place a scene after the gun range scene. And before the gun range scene is a scene where Cortney Portnoy pulls the gun and aims it at a possible mugger in the parking lot who, upon seeing the gun, immediately apologizes, says he was joking, and runs away scared. "A bit crude"?!? This is the most detailed firearm I've seen in animation in a long time! It looks like someone really spent a long time modeling or drawing this gun with a reference to get as much right as they could! And did you even watch the animation of this scene, or are you only juding it based on these pictures? Okay, based on the screencaps which you have provided, the show's style is a bit crude. Western animation goes through more scrutiny than any other genre here. The show's eligibility will not be determined by one well drawn frame. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:13, 12 September 2017 (EDT)

One minor note, I object to your use of the word "frame", since that would imply the gun was only "well drawn" for less than a 24th of a second. It was "well drawn" for a number of seconds, as long as it was on the screen in close-ups. Admittedly, the gun is less detailed (but still recognizable as an S&W 327) in the other shots it appears in. I apologize for being pedantic. Dogman15 (talk) 05:53, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

More stuff

As it happens, I was about to just go ahead and build this article from the ground up having finished MFKZ as a part of putting more "Non Anime Animation" articles up (for ones that best qualify). Pretty much was just gonna build it and publish in one go and then wait and see if it lives or dies. I didn't expect there to be a talk page already discussing it, but since there is I guess I have to say something instead of just bulldozing through. I've been collecting caps and was basically gonna mark out all the good stuff, and then either on the Talk Page or the very bottom of the main page make a very short entry on the more questionable and usually non-acceptable guns. The main idea here is that the show has more detailed firearms than generic ones, as opposed to The Simpsons, which while there are a number of identifiable firearms, there's simply too many generic cartoon guns. Basically, this entry would have simply called out the goofy looking police pistol and and the generic Glock looking handguns (Though probably two pics for that one, as later seasons added a hammer to that one for some reason).

So far what's good is the aforementioned revolver (Pretty sure it's a Taurus, though. That is most certainly a Taurus grip, and Taurus' have those modern-Smith looking cylinder releases), as well as a CZ P-01 (Specifically the Omega version given the shape of the hammer and the rear sights) and a (rather nice looking) Beretta 92FS in the same episode. BoJack himself has a cigarette lighter based on one of those .32 Clerke revolvers in one episode. The chicken farmer has an 870 field shotgun and a double barrel shotgun (which the site mostly treats as generic anyways. This one does appear to be based on a picture and has exposed hammers to boot). Soldiers are seen with M14 rifles in Cordovia. Character Actress Margo Martindale uses an AK-type rifle with a slant muzzle brake (I feel like it's based on a civilian variant, maybe a CAI-import WASR) in several episodes (with multiple angles during "The Shot"; these same WASRs show up in other episodes, most notably during filming of Philbert episodes during that season; Edited note: Portnoy's AK in the above cap is missing the cleaning rod, although it appears on Margo's AK. Portnoy's also lacks the slant brake) and also has an RPG-7 in another. The actress who gives Diane the revolver has an M16A2-looking rifle in her range (long handguard) while sporter variants (short handguard, long barrel) show up in the Season 1 episode where BoJack and Todd trip the fuck out on LSD ("Downer Ending" I think). And I haven't gotten that far into capping but Mr. Peanutbutter has a shotgun in the Philbert season, a pump-action with a heat shield that looked like a Mossberg. And that's about everything. Those cop pistols are pretty bad, and the glocks are just cartoon glocks, but everything else checks out imo. At least enough to talk about, maybe. Anyways, if there's already discussion on it, then I guess it's someone else's call. I can upload the pics I have to Imgur if soemone wants to inspect them personally. Meanwhile I'll go back to procrastinating a Hulu trial in order to get pictures for Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero (The article is written, the pictures are not yet acquired. It's pretty good though. • Wrong about the sporters, actually. They're all just M16A2s. Appear in other episodes. Mr Peanutbutter has and pumps a Mossberg 590 during Season 4, though. No heatshield, end-cap for tube makes it a 590, looks pretty good, two angles. "Brap Brapp Pew" in Season 3 features M203 launchers at one point. Poorly drawn Glocks throughout, with a slight quality upgrade during the Philbert episodes in Season 4, sort of.--Clonehunter (talk) 11:41, 6 March 2020 (EST)
