Mannlicher Model 1905
The Mannlicher Model 1905 is a pistol designed by Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher and produced in Austria by Steyr. The first model, the Mannlicher Model 1900 was chambered in a weak 8mm cartridge, but the improved Model 1901 was made for the 7.63mm Mannlicher round to make it more powerful. The Model 1905 is a version with some innovations such as new frame shape and sights. This pistol was the official sidearm of the Argentine Army as the Modelo 1905. Just 4,000 of the Model 1901 and over 10,000 of the Model 1905 were manufactured. Model 1901/1905 was produced in four versions, differing in magazine capacity and barrel length.
The Spanish firm Garate Anitua y Cia also manufactured the La Lira pistol, the improved copy of the Mannlicher M1901 for a brief period around 1910. It is was chambered for the .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning) round and used a detachable box magazine. The La Lira was also a simple blowback action instead the slight delaying mechanism of the original Mannlicher. Only 500-1000 of these pistols were made in total.
