Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
Unidentified This article currently has one or more unidentified weapons. |
The following weapons were used in Season 2 of the series Magnum P.I.:
Pistols
Colt Government Model
The main handgun used by Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) is a Colt MKIV/Series 70 Government Model, which is a commercial version of the U.S. Military M1911A1. In "Mad Buck Gibson" (S2E08) Buck Gibson (Darren McGavin) takes Magnum's gun while he's asleep. When confronted by Magnum, he teaches him an incorrect "Mozambique Drill", shooting the head of a sillouette target, then the chest twice. The real Mozambique drill consists of 2 shots to the chest, one to the head, in that order. This handgun is supposed to be the one he carried during his service in Vietnam and is sometimes carried in a tanker-style holster, most often seen carried tucked into his waistband around the back. It is sometimes seen in Magnum's flashbacks to Vietnam. A former propmaster for the show has been quoted saying that the original gun was a traditional .45 ACP 1911, but was soon changed to a 9mm version because .45 ACP blanks were too hard to get on location for the show.
Star Model B
Occassionally Magnum's pistol is swapped for a Star Model B.
Beretta 92SB-C
The Beretta 92SB-C is seen various times throughout "The Jororo Kill" (S2E12). Magnum picks one off the ground during a shootout.
K-54 (Type 54)
In "Memories are Forever" (S2E05), Magnum, TC (Roger E. Mosley) and Rick (Larry Manetti) are held at gunpoint by Vietnamese in Little Saigon. Although many Tokarev TT-33 copies have been made across the Eastern Bloc, the one most likely to fall into American hands is the 1980s were Chinese Type 54 pistols. K-54 refers to the Vietnamese designation for the pistol, which considering the context, is likely the pistol being portrayed. It is refered to as "Tokarev Star 9mm" by Rick. 9mm Norinco productions are said to have started around the mid/late 1980s, therefore Rick is incorrect, especially since he recognizes it a Vietnam War firearm. It had nicknames relating to the star on its grips such as "Black Star pistol" in China, therefore the nickname "Tokarev Star" is plausible.
Walther PPK
Elaine Selmire (Corinne Camacho) carries a Walther PPK in "The Sixth Position" (S2E10).
Revolvers
Colt Detective Special
Colonel Ki (Clyde Kusatsu) carries a 1st or 2nd generation Colt Detective Special in "Memories are Forever" (S2E05). Gary (John Calvin) also holds Rick and "TC" at gunpoint with one in "Wave Goodbye" (S2E07).
Colt Single Action Army
A Colt Single Action Army revolver is pulled by Billy Joe Bob Little (James Whitmore Jr.) in "Billy Joe Bob" (S2E01).
Smith & Wesson Model 10

Smith & Wesson Model 15
The Smith & Wesson Model 15 is seen used by some HPD Officers as their service revolver. They are commonly seen in the hands of thugs.
Smith & Wesson Model 25/29
Sumo (Jake Hoopai) carries either a Smith & Wesson Model 25 or a Smith & Wesson Model 29 in "Tropical Madness" (S2E06). The Model 25 and Model 29 are practically indistinguishable, with the Model 25 often being used as a stand-in for the Model 29.
Smith & Wesson Model 36
Henry Ellison (Jack Hogan) carries a Smith & Wesson Model 36 in "The Woman on the Beach" (S2E3).
Smith & Wesson Model 66
Katrina (Ann Dusenberry) shoots Higgins and later holds Margo (Mimi Rogers) at gunpoint with a stainless steel Smith & Wesson Model 66 (2½" bbl.) in "Italian Ice" (S2E16).
Rifles
M16
USAF airmen carry the original M16 rifle in "From Moscow to Maui" (S2E04). The rifle was only ever adopted by the Air Force, other branches would instead adopt the M16A1, featuring a forward assist.
M16A1
In the opening of "Memories are Forever" (S2E05), several military police officers can be seen with M16A1 rifles at the American embassy in Saigon, South Vietnam (Now Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).
XM16E1 (M16A1)
In "Wave Goodbye" (S2E07) Nick Frangakis (Wings Hauser) has an M16A1 disguised as an XM16E1 rifle.
AKM (M71/S)
