M2 Mortar

During the second day of fighting, several retreating U.S. soldiers are seen using 60mm M2 Mortar or possibly 81mm M1 Mortar rounds as hand grenades against the Japanese. They armed the rounds by banging them against their helmets and threw them, killing several enemy soldiers. This would've been a technique used by others after being demonstrated by Charles "Commando" Kelly when in Italy 1943. This tactic was also demonstrated in Saving Private Ryan only they used the mortar base plate to prime the rounds.

Unknown mortar

Japanese troops are seen firing an unidentified mortar (possibly an American M1 Mortar) painted a dirty yellow.
