Gotti (1996)

Gotti is a 1996 HBO biopic of American mafioso John Gotti that was directed by Robert Harmon (The Hitcher, the Jesse Stone series) and starred Armand Assante in the title role, with William Forsythe, Richard C. Sarafian, Frank Vincent and Anthony Quinn. The film was the highest rated original film for HBO at the time it first aired, and its success led to The Sopranos being greenlit, which also featured costars Tony Sirico, Vincent Pastore and Dominic Chianese.

The following weapons were used in the film Gotti (1996):

Taurus PT92AF

Ralph Galione (Michael A. Miranda) shoots Westies gangster James McBratney (uncredited) with a Taurus PT92AF. An assassin later uses one to shoot Tommy Bilotti (Ron Gabriel).

Taurus PT92AF - Earliest Model with no Decocker, the lever is only a Safety and does not turn downwards like the later models - 9x19mm

Galione pulls out his PT92. Notice the lack of safeties on the slide.

Galione shoots McBratney. Since this scene takes place in 1973, the PT92 is an anachronism.

A conveniently lit Taurus PT92, complete with visible Taurus markings.

Beretta 92FS

Joe D'miglia (Tony Sirico) uses a suppressed Beretta 92FS to kill Ralph Galione for botching the McBratney hit. John Gotti (Armand Assante) later is seen with a Beretta tucked into his belt. As these scenes occurred in the early seventies, the presence of the Beretta 92FS is an anachronism.

Star Model B

Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano (William Forsythe) uses a Star Model B to kill his brother-in-law Nick Scibetta (Frank Crudele). It jams twice before Sammy is able to fire a round.

Star Model B Pistol, blued finish - 9mm. This is a screen used Star Model B from the 1987 film The Untouchables.

Sammy takes aim at Nick, but the pistol won't fire.

The external extractor is visible as Sammy tries to get the gun to fire.

Smith & Wesson Model 15 Snubnose

Joe D'miglia (Tony Sirico) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 15 Snub when assassinating Gambino boss Paul Castellano (Richard C. Sarafian).

Smith & Wesson Model 36

Another assassin uses a Smith & Wesson Model 36 when assassinating Paul Castellano.

Smith & Wesson Model 36 - .38 Special

The duty sights are seen as the assassin draws his S&W 36.

Smith & Wesson Model 10HB

Another assassin uses a Smith & Wesson Model 10HB to shoot Tommy Bilotti.

M1911-type

An assassin uses an unknown M1911-type pistol when assassinating Paul Castellano. There are not enough details to make a more definitive ID.

Colt Government Model M1911A1 - .45 ACP

An assassin draws his cocked M1911. An external extractor is not visible here.

Impossible to determine

Two weapons are impossible to ID due to lack of details.

Sammy kills John Favara (Tony De Santis) with an unknown snub-nosed pistol. This is a bit of dramatic license, as the body of John Favara, who accidentally ran over Gotti's son, has never been recovered, despite the best efforts of law enforcement. Furthermore, it's unlikely that Sammy Gravano killed him, as Sammy never admitted to it, despite having no incentive not to after turning on Gotti. Favara's killing is also believed to have been far more gruesome than portrayed.

Joe Paruto (Dante Rota) shoots Robert "DiB" DiBernardo (Frank Vincent) in the back of the head with either a Beretta 92FS or a Taurus PT92AF. In reality, DiB was in the basement, and Paruto used a .38 caliber revolver.
