Dr. M is a 1990 (filmed 1989) German-French-Italian thriller directed by Claude Chabrol. The film is a remake of Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse The Gambler. Berlin is plagued by mass suicides on both sides of the Berlin Wall. West Berlin police detective Klaus Hartmann (Jan Niklas) discovers that all the victims were obsessed with Sonja Vogler (Jennifer Beals) who appears on video billboards around the city as a spokesperson for the Club Theratos holiday tours. The following investigation leads Hartmann and the East German secret service agent Moser (Hanns Zischler) to media magnate Dr. Heinrich Marsfeldt (Alan Bates).
The following weapons were used in the film Dr. M:
WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Bruni Olympic 5
A Berliner plans to commit suicide with a Bruni Olympic 5 revolver. The revolver has black plastic grips, rarely seen on Olympic 5. This blank firing gun is shown as a live weapon.
Beretta Cheetah
Moser (Hanns Zischler), an East German secret service agent, gives a Beretta Cheetah pistol to West Berlin police Lt. Claus Hartman (Jan Niklas). The exact version of the Beretta 80 series is unclear. Beretta 84 is a possible guess as this model is often seen in late 1980s films.
Walther PPK
TV host Veidt (Peter Fitz) commits suicide with a Walther PPK.
Röhm RG300
A street circus performer uses a nickel-plated Röhm RG300 to commit suicide.
Unidentified pistols
In the climactic scene in the TV studio police Capt. Engler (Alexander Radszun) is armed with a pistol that is seen briefly and unclear.
In the scene when Claus Hartman (Jan Niklas) saves Sonja Vogler (Jennifer Beals), attacked by the assassin (Andrew McCarthy), he holds a pistol. In the movie itself the gun is not seen, only the muzzle flash is visible, but a promotional image shows Hartman with the pistol in hands.
