Defiance is a 2008 World War II film starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber as brothers who decide to take the fight to the enemy during the German occupation of Poland while also protecting mass numbers of Jewish refugees. The film was directed by Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai) and should be noted for the many World War II-era weapons seen in what appears to be near mint condition, which is correct considering the time frame (a rarity for the films).

The following weapons were used in the film Defiance (2008):

Pistols

Walther P38

Tuvia Bielski (Daniel Craig) uses a Walther P38 as his sidearm. He gives it to Lilka Ticktin (Alexa Davalos) to protect herself during her food mission. Asael (Jamie Bell) also uses one to kill one German.

Tuvia pulls out his Walther P38, and, in a rarely seen moment, thumbs the safety off.

Tuvia kills a refugee who disobeyed orders and tried to overthrow Tuvia.

Tokarev TT-33

During the Soviet ambush, Zus (Liev Schreiber) uses a Tokarev TT-33 to execute a German officer and a soldier. Near the end of the film, he shoots the tank commander with the Tokarev. Lilka's side arm is also a TT-33.

Zus takes down the tank commander.

Revolvers

Chamelot-Delvigne Model 1873

The first gun obtained by Tuvia Bielski (Daniel Craig) from Koscik is a French Chamelot-Delvigne Model 1873 revolver. He uses it to avenge his parent's death.

Nagant M1895

A female member of the Otriad is seen firing the Nagant M1895 in the final battle. Also seems to be standard issue for the police.

Submachine Guns

MP40

Tuvia Bielski (Daniel Craig) and his brother Zus (Liev Schreiber) carry captured MP40 submachine guns. Numerous Germans are equipped with the MP40.

PPSh-41

Red Army soldiers are equipped with the PPSh-41. Towards the end of the film, some partisans have it too, notably Asael Bielski (Jamie Bell).

Rifles / Carbines

Mosin Nagant M91/30

The Mosin-Nagant M91/30 is used by the Red Army soldiers and the Bielski partisans. Chaya (Mia Wasikowska) fires an M91/30 in the final battle.

Mauser Model 1938

During the Nazi attack led by the milkman who gave the Nazis directions (forcing the Bielskis to abandon their first camp), Zus (Liev Schreiber) is seen firing a Turkish Mauser M38 in addition to the MP40 he is typically seen carrying, particularly when he shoots the milkman's arm.

Zus works the blot on the Mauser. His typically carried MP40 is slung; its pistol grip is barely seen on the right.

Mosin Nagant M38 Carbine

Several Mosin Nagant M38 Carbines are seen in the film, used by partisans. Also used by Polish Police.

Shotguns

12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun

Zus (Liev Schreiber) keeps a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun for protection and uses it when he goes into town seeking vengeance. He takes two rounds to down his first victim, and hits another in the chest, just wounding him, which suggests he is using either birdshot or another less powerful round. It also has exposed hammers.

Machine Guns

Degtyarev DP

Zus is using a Degtyaryov DP-28 during an ambush. Later in the film, other partisans use it against attacking German forces.

MG34

At the end of the film, a German machine gunner team is setting their MG34, mounting it on a tripod, but Tuvia (Daniel Craig) takes them out from behind and uses the machine gun against the German infantry. The tank which he shoots at also has an MG34. Earlier, during the Red Army ambush, a German soldier shoots it from a truck.

Hand Grenades

Model 24 Stielhandgranate

The Model 24 Stielhandgranate is a German grenade, but it is only seen used by the Bielski partisans during the film. Zus throws one under a German truck during the Red Army ambush and later throws one into a German tank. Near the end of the film, Isaac (Mark Feuerstein) attacks German soldiers with a bag of grenades.

Trivia

Panzerkampfwagen Ausf. J/1

A rather good mockup of a Panzerkampfwagen Ausf. J/1 was used at the end of the movie. It is one of the two vehicles used in the film Enemy at the Gates. Those were built using modified Swiss Panzer 61 tanks.
