Dangerous Ground (1997)

Dangerous Ground is a 1997 action crime drama directed by Darrell Roodt . The film stars Ice Cube as Vusi Madlazi, a former student activist who returns to a post-apartheid South Africa after being exiled for 15 years in order to find his missing brother. The film also stars Elizabeth Hurley as Karen, the girlfriend of Vusi's brother, and Ving Rhames as crime lord Muki.

The following guns were used in Dangerous Ground:

Beretta M1934

Early in the film, Vusi Madlazi (Ice Cube) gets carjacked by a street gang. The gang's leader carries an engraved, nickel-plated Beretta M1934 pistol.

Beretta 92SB

Early in the film, a young Vusi (Thokozani Nkosi) is exiled by a South African policeman (Wilson Dunster), who threatens him with a Beretta 92SB pistol. The Beretta 92SB is also used by Muki's bodyguard (Simo Mogwaza) later in the film.

Glock 17

During a fight with members of a white nationalist gang, Vusi Madlazi (Ice Cube) takes a Glock 17 from the gang leader, and subsequently carries it for most of the film. The Glock 17 is also handled by Karen (Elizabeth Hurley), Muki (Ving Rhames), and several of Muki's henchmen.

2nd Generation Glock 17 - 9x19mm

Karen (Elizabeth Hurley) picks up the Glock 17.

Vusi Madlazi (Ice Cube) holds the Glock on the white supremacist gang leader.

Underworld boss Muki (Ving Rhames) handles Vusi's captured Glock.

Taurus PT92

In the climax of the film, Muki (Ving Rhames) uses a modified Taurus PT92 fitted with a compensator and custom grips. This gun is also handled by his right-hand man (Ernest Ndlovu).

Taurus PT92AF - Earliest Model with no Decocker, the lever is only a Safety and does not turn downwards like the later models - 9x19mm.

Muki´s right-hand man holds his Taurus PT92 on Vusi.

The thug holds the Taurus after Vusi attempts to escape from him.

Muki holds Ernest Madlazi (Sechaba Morojele) hostage with the Taurus.

Muki fires the Taurus PT92 along with a custom Varan PMX-80.

Unidentified pistol

Muki's mistress (Candy Jack Lee) fires at Vusi with an unidentified pistol from a hot tub.

Muki's mistress raises her pistol from the hot tub.

Muki's mistress tries to kill Vusi.

Varan PMX-80

Muki (Ving Rhames) uses a Varan PMX-80 as one of his two pistols in the climax, along with a custom Taurus PT92.

Muki fires at the Madlazi brothers with his two pistols.

Muki holds the Varan PMX-80 on Ernest.

Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver

One of Muki's bodyguards is armed with a nickel-plated Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver.

Vektor R4 (mocked up as AK-47)

In the climax of the film, both Vusi (Ice Cube) and Ernest (Sechaba Morojele) Madlazi arm themselves with Vektor R4 rifles that are mocked-up as AK-47s. These rifles are now very commonly seen in South African productions, though Dangerous Ground appears to be one of the earliest movies to feature them. Ernest's rifle has an under-folding stock, while Vusi's rifle has no stock at all. A modified R4 is also used by a carjacker in the beginning of the movie.

Unmodified Vektor R4 - 5.56x45mm

A gangbanger aims a Vektor R4 modified to resemble an AK-47 at Vusi.

Vusi Madlazi (Ice Cube) fires at one of Muki's henchmen with his modified Vektor R4. Visible in this shot is the less-curved magazine of the Vektor along with the milled lightening cut.

Ernest Madlazi (Sechaba Morojele) holds his Vektor R4.

Norinco Type 56-1

Karen (Elizabeth Hurley) uses a Norinco Type 56-1 in the climax of the film, rather than the modified Vektor R4s used by Vusi and Ernest.

Norinco Type 56-1 (under-folding stock variant) - 7.62x39mm

Karen, unable to handle the recoil of her Norinco Type 56-1, fires into the ceiling. Note the 7.62x39mm magazine which identifies this as a genuine AK, as opposed to the 5.56x45mm Vektor R4-based AK mockups used by other characters.

Micro Uzi

One of Muki's bodyguards uses what appears to be a Micro Uzi that has been nickel-plated.

Armscor M30R6

A sawed-off Armscor M30R6 is used by one of Muki's thugs at the end of the film.
