The remake was directed by Steven Zaillian and the cast included Anthony Hopkins, Jude Law, Jackie Earle Haley, and Kate Winslet. The novel had previously been adapted into a 1949 feature film that was directed by Robert Rossen and would later receive the Academy Award for Best Picture.
