True to life, the G36 is the standard assault rifle of Bundeswehr forces. It is seen throughout the series in the hands of German soldiers, but most prominently during Episode 5 when they have to fight back the deserters who try to enter the bunker by force.

The rifle has to be loaded one round at a time directly into the chamber as it seems to be missing the magazine that goes along with it. His daughter Nora (Luisa-Céline Gaffron) uses the rifle as well to practice shooting and to confront her father in the final episode.
