Gerard Revolver
The Gerard Revolver was designed by Liege gunsmith Théophile Gerard; it was later manufactured by a number of other gunmakers such as Manufacture Liègeoise, Jules Kauffman and Alf Simonis.
In 1883 the Brazilian army adopted Mauser Zig-Zag revolvers and sent an officer to procure the weapons in Europe; said officer disregarded his orders by signing a contract for 1500 Gerards instead. This caused a scandal due to allegations of corruption and the low quality of the weapons; despite this the Gerard was adopted since the order could not be canceled.
More Gerards were ordered later and the weapon was only phased out in 1906 after the Luger was adopted; but remained in use with some police forces up to the 1930s
