Lloyd Avery II
Lloyd Avery II is an American actor who was a high school friend of director. Singleton jump-started Avery's acting career by casting him in a short but memorable role as a Blood gang member who kills one of the main characters in Boyz N The Hood. Despite being from a middle-class background in the Baldwin Hills suburb of Los Angeles and having no experience in gangs prior to his casting in Boyz N The Hood, Avery subsequently moved to the rough Jungles neighborhood in South Central L.A. and became a Blood gang member in real life. After several more movie roles throughout the 1990s in which he played gang members, Avery was arrested in December 1999 for a double-homicide and sentenced to life in prison. He was killed by his cellmate in 2005.
