Stargate SG-1 was the science-fiction television adaptation of the feature film Stargate (1994). The makers of the film declined to be involved with this series, which was subsequently created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner and produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The television series followed the members of SG-1, a team operating under the newly formed Stargate Command situated in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, in their journeys through the Stargate. For the majority of the series, the team was led by Col. Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson). For 10 seasons from 1997 to 2007, Stargate SG-1 aired in the US through several outlets, including the premium channel Showtime, the Sci-Fi Channel and in syndication. At a count of 214 episodes as well as several television films, this series also presently stands as the longest-running North American-produced science-fiction television series. Stargate: SG-1 would also spawn two live action television spinoffs: Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate Universe.
