About
Eidgenössische Waffenfabrik Bern (English: "Federal Arms Factory Bern") was a Swiss state-owned arms factory that was established in 1875 and based in the city of Bern. It was the Swiss Army's primary source for small arms during the late 19th and early 20th century. After World War II, Waffenfabrik Bern was mostly sidelined for military contracts by the private firm SIG. In 1993, the company was privatized and renamed W+F Bern. It was later acquired by the RUAG group, and no longer produces firearms. The talented and influential firearm designer, Adolf Furrer, worked here and made many weapons, mostly toggle-action.
