The Edge (Original title: Kray - Russian: Край) is a 2010 Russian drama film directed by Alexei Uchitel. Shortly after the Second World War, war hero Ignat (Vladimir Mashkov) arrives in a remote Siberian labor camp as a disgraced political prisoner in need of "re-education". In the wilderness, he discovers Elsa (Anjorka Strechel), a young German woman hiding out alone in a wrecked locomotive. Initially hostile to each other due to the war and language barrier, Ignat and Elsa begin to plot an escape via repairing the train. Soon, they are threatened by the brutal NKVD Major Fishman (Sergey Garmash) and must make a race to freedom through the Siberian wilderness. This film received was submitted as Russia's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards but was not selected.
