Brother (Brat) is a 1997 cult Russian thriller film directed by Aleksey Balabanov. The story revolves around a young Russian man named Danila (Sergei Bodrov Jr.), who goes to join his older brother in St. Petersburg. But Danila's older sibling is a gangster and a cold-blooded contract-killer. Danila is asked to kill someone, and soon learns that he finds killing easier than living (people who don't speak Russian may find it ironic and humorous that the Russian word for "brother" is "brat", so any of us who have brothers will find humor in that translation.)
The following weapons were used in the film Brother (Brat):
Handmade Revolver
Danila's first gun is a locally-produced .22 LR revolver (which apparently has no official name). Cheap revolvers such as this one were produced in the 1990s by one of the gangs which operated out of the Moscow Suburbs. Many people wrongly identify it as a Nagant revolver, due to the somewhat similar appearance to a Nagant. It is later fitted with a homemade suppressor; which would be rather ineffective in real life since he gap between the barrel and cylinder still allows gases to escape. How effective it is in the film is not very clear since Danila sets off a firecracker as distraction when he fires it (and is still detected).
Makarov PM
A Makarov PM is used by "Utyug" ("Iron") (Vladimir Labetskiy), one of Krugly's henchmen.
M1911
A M1911 is used by Viktor (Viktor Sukhorukov).
Walther P38
Krugly's main henchman (Aleksey Sevastyanov) carries a Walther P38.
Tokarev TT-33
A suppressed Tokarev TT-33 is used by Mole (Aleksey Poluyan).
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
Danila buys a double-barreled shotgun with exposed hammers (presumably a TOZ-63) from his drunken neighbor (Vitaliy Matveev) and saws down the barrels. Danila handloads his shells, replacing the birdshot with nail heads.
Custom-made SMG
A suppressed submachine gun is seen in Viktor's kitchen, with a design somewhat reminiscent of the Sa 23. This is a custom-built submachine gun, one of the countless that were made in the former USSR in the 1990s by criminals and rebels, and whose quality ranged from "crumbling-in-your-hands" to "factory-made quality".
Colt M16A1
An M16A1 is seen in the hands of a model on a poster at the end of the film.
