Civil War is a 2024 American action war film directed by Alex Garland. Set in the near future, the film takes place during a rapidly escalating Second American Civil War, where the tyrannical President (Nick Offerman) fortifies himself and his loyalists in Washington, D.C. as the secessionist Western Forces close in. The film follows war photojournalist Lee Smith (Kirsten Dunst), who joins the Western Forces army followed by fellow journalists Joel (Wagner Moura) and Jessie (Cailee Spaeny). Along the way, the trio witness the devastation of the Second Civil War firsthand, and become ever more active participants in the conflict.
