Ultraman: The Next, simply known as ULTRAMAN in Japan, is a 2004 Tsuburaya Productions film directed by Kazuya Konaka and written by Keiichi Hasegawa. The film was made as an attempt to reboot the long running Ultraman television franchise for an older audience.

The story follows Shunichi Maki (Tetsuya Bessho), a first Lieutenant of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and pilot of an F-15 Eagle. While contemplating leaving the service to spend more time with his wife and help take care of their son who suffers from a congenital blood disease, a strange red ball of light is seen. Shunichi is one of the pilots sent to investigate and accidentally collides with the UFO. Astonishingly he survives seemingly unharmed but after a while he suffers visions and changes to his body.

He's detained by the Bioterror Counter Science and Tactics or BCST for short, who inform him that a similar incident happened with a submarine in the Pacific Ocean encountering a strange blue ball of light. Only one member of the Maritime Self-Defense Forces survived the encounter with the USO, Takafumi Udo (Kenya Osumi), who over the days slowly transformed into a monster code named "Beast The One" who can absorb animals to give itself new abilities such as scales, wings and grow larger. The monster has escaped and is wracking havoc. The BCST fears Shunichi will transform too and have code named him as "The Next". Now thrust into an insane scenario, Shunichi must learn to become "Ultraman" and stop the monster.

The following weapons were used in the film Ultraman: The Next:

Handguns

SIG-Sauer P226

While undercover, Sara Mizuhara (Kyoko Toyama) points a SIG-Sauer P226 at Shunichi Maki/Ultraman The Next (Tetsuya Bessho) during a flight tour, forcing him to land and be captured by the BCST. Ironically Sara herself will have the same type of pistol pressed in her back by one of Shunichi's friends in the service, Takeshi Kurashima (Toshiya Nagasawa), when he forces her to let him see his ill son. Later Yashiro (Kazuya Shimizu), having survived an attack by Beast The One will aim his P226 at Sara's head out of misplaced anger for some of his men being killed by the monster.

Submachine Guns

MAC-10/11

Yashiro and his men try to stop Beast The One from escaping with MAC-10s or MAC-11s. Later the submachine guns open fire on Shunichi as he escapes from BCST custody after having a vision about his son's failing health.

Autocannons

M61 Vulcan

Early in the film we see Shunichi Maki and the maintenance crew doing some final check up on his F-15 Eagle before he takes off. Right next to the right engine intake the viewer can see the right wing root with a hole in it for the internal M61 Vulcan to fire out of. Later on in the film some F-15 Eagles help Ultraman The Next. They never use their autocannons, instead opting for missiles and rockets as Beast The Ones had grown too large to be injured by 20mm rounds.

Fictional Weapons

Poison Revolver

Sara is armed with a revolver capable of firing poison darts made to kill Beast The One. The revolver can also be equipped with a butt-stock and extended barrel to turn it into a carbine (see below). The revolver appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 629 Performance Center, either a replica or real one, dressed up as a sci-fi weapon for the purpose of the film's story. This gun has no official name, "Poison Revolver" is just for the sake of convenience.

Poison Revolver Rifle

The carbine version of the poison revolver (see above), with a butt-stock and an extended barrel as well as a scope, are used by Yashiro and his men after luring Beast The One into a trap. Curiously it seems the rifle versions are fully automatic or burst fire. The result gives the impression that the guns have a higher ammo capacity than should be possible with the cylinder size they are equipped with. This gun has no official name, "Poison Revolver Rifle" is just for the sake of convenience.

Miscellaneous

Unidentified Military Police Handguns

Some military police can be seen armed with handguns in their hip holsters. The film never gives us a closer look at them so they are nearly impossible to identify.
