The House of the Dead 4 is a horror-themed light gun arcade game and the fourth installment of The House of the Dead series of video games, developed by Sega. The game takes place between the events of The House of the Dead 2 and The House of the Dead III, and introduced several new gameplay concepts. Players can control characters James Taylor, from The House of the Dead 2 (on the left side), or Kate Green, a new character to the series (on the right side).

The game was followed by House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.

Beretta Cougar Inox

During a flashback of the second game, played in the intro and in the last chapter of the game, AMS agents James Taylor, Gary Stewart, Amy Crystal and Harry Harris are seen using their standard-issue AMS Beretta Cougar Inox pistols.

Submachine Guns

Brügger & Thomet TP9

AMS Agents James Taylor, Kate Green and "G" uses modified stockless Brügger & Thomet TP9 fitted with weapon light as main weapon. It is depicted as fully automatic and holds 30 rounds.

MAC-10

The MAC-10 appear as game's gun controller. Unlike other gun controller, It's equipped with accelerometer, so player must shake the gun controller when reload and "Shake Play" (This is one of the distinctive elements of this game).

Grenade

Mk 2 hand grenade

AMS Agents James Taylor, Kate Green and "G" uses Mk 2 hand grenade as secondory weapon. Player hold three grenade as the default, and can hold a five grenade as maximum.
Number of grenades are can be increase by collecting grenade item hidden in each stage. If only two or less grenades remain upon clearing a stage, Player will automatically start the next stage with three grenades.
