Textron NGSW-R
The Textron NGSW-R is an American battle rifle designed by Textron, developed for the US military's Next Generation Squad Weapon program (specifically the NGSW-R requirement for a new rifle; a companion machine gun, the NGSW-AR, was likewise developed). The rifle was unveiled in 2019, and went through multiple iterations, competing against the LoneStar Future Weapons RM277 and SIG-Sauer MCX-SPEAR before ultimately losing out to the latter in 2022.
The rifle uses a proprietary 6.8mm cased-telescoped round (derived from Textron's earlier work on the LSAT program), along with a gas-operated vertically-moving-chamber system similar to the Steyr ACR; the blocky assembly at the bottom of the handguard is actually the ejection chute, with the weapon ejecting spent cases out the left side of this assembly. As with the other NGSW-R entrants, the Textron rifle is meant to be used in conjunction with a proprietary suppressor.
