Hostage aka Colt: Flight 802 (1987)

Hostage (not to be confused with the 2005 Bruce Willis movie of the same name) is a 1987 action film starring Wings Hauser and most notably, real life mercenaries (and editors of Soldier of Fortune Magazine) Col. Robert K. Brown and John Donovan.

It is notable that the first director was replaced by the executive producer halfway through the production, much to the relief of Brown and Donovan. They were vocal in their displeasure of having a director who knew nothing about military weapons, uniforms or tactics and had never helmed a military or action film before. But real soldiers sometimes have to 'bite their tongues' and do what their director tells them, no matter how ridiculous it is 'tactics wise'.

The following weapons were used in the film Hostage (1987):

Milkor BXP South African Submachine gun

  • Used by nearly all mercenary forces including the lead played by Wings Hauser.
Armscor BXP - 9x19mm

AK47

  • Carried by terrorists, government troops and mercenary commandos. These were not Type 56s but real original milled receiver AK47s (provided by the South African movie armorers).
AK-47 - 7.62x39mm

Walther P1

  • Carried by Sam Striker (Wings Hauser). There are some extreme closeups of this pistol to indicate that it is indeed a modern P1, and not a vintage P38, though the guns are nearly identical.

Striker 12 Shotgun

  • Many of the mercenaries carry original South African Armsel Striker shotguns. These are the predecessor of the Protecta rotary drum shotgun, but being an older design have the large and obvious drum winding key in the front.
Armsel Striker - 12 Gauge

MP40

  • Some terrorists and government militias are seen carrying German MP40s. These apparently are in large supply in many of the Bush wars of Africa.

FBP Submachine Gun

During the commando charge on the plane, a merc can be seen with an FBP Submachine Gun, which were available due to Portugal's colonial assets in the region.
