A few things in this movie made me go "hmmmm..." (see below). Would be cool if you guys had any suggestions, thanks in advance!

'1.) Does it make sense to fiddle with tips of bullets in this way? Seems to me like it would negatively influence ballistics performance...

'2.) Is this an excisting silencer or some home-made device?

'3.) This thing on the SWD/Cobray Street Sweeper had me puzzled big time from the moment I saw it. Any ideas as to what it might be?

'4.) I don't recall ever having seen a silencer on a .50 rifle. Isn't the blast too powerful to be 'tamed' by a silencer?

With a big enough can, anything can be suppressed, although I'm using the term "suppress" very carefully. Many companies make .50 caliber cans, including AAC with the Cyclops, which is rated for a noise reduction of ~32dB, albeit on a rifle with a report that can be upwards of 175dB. Have a few suggestions:

1) Cant really make out what he is doing, is he filing the tip off or something? If you file the tip off of a FMJ round it can potentially make it more effective on soft targets with the bullet expanding on impact. (Depends on the bullet as the jacket may be too thick to expand much anyway even with the lead exposed at the tip.)

2) Pass, but looks fake.

3) Looks like it is a DIY shot spreader so that when the shotgun is fired the shot pattern is a wide horizontal band.

4) People do make suppressors for the M82, Reflex for one. Their suppressor is similar in design, being long with a large wraparound expansion chamber. Apparently it reduces the report to about that of a unsuppressed .308 and eliminates the flash. I'm assuming this particular suppressor is a fake one like in most films, but the design is realistic.

I saw a documentary about Barrett and Ronnie Barrett was showing off a large wrap-around suppressor that Barrett was prototyping and he said that while it did dampen the report of the .50 BMG round, it was still pretty loud and he said the purpose of the suppressor was to hide the muzzle flash, so the sniper's position would not be revealed and also to make the rifle more comfortable to fire without ear protection. --SmithandWesson36 22:32, 7 August 2012 (CDT)
