Ransomed (Korean title: 비공식작전, Bigongsigjagjeon, lit. "Unofficial Operation") is a 2023 Korean action-drama film. Taking place in 1987 during the peak of the Lebanese Civil War, the film stars Ha Jung-woo as Korean diplomat Lee Min-jun. After receiving a call from a Korean diplomat who was kidnapped in Lebanon one year prior, Min-jun volunteers to go to the civil war-torn nation to negotiate with the diplomat's kidnappers and bring him back to South Korea. As Min-jun arrives in Beirut, he meets sleazy Korean taxi driver Kim Pan-su (Ju Ji-hoon), who is suddenly thrust into Min-jun's assignment. The film follows Min-jun and Pan-su as they make their way to the ransomed diplomat, all while carrying the $2.5 million US dollar (around $7 million USD in 2024) ransom as they are hunted down by both the local authorities and militas. The film is based on true events, the details of which the South Korean government will fully declassify in 2047.

Of note is that the weapon's appearance in this film is anachronistic; while the M4A1 did enter production in 1987 (the year the film is set), it would not enter service in the US Armed Forces until 1994, let alone be exported to and used by Middle Eastern militias.
