Ferguson Rifle

Invented by British Major Patrick Ferguson, the Ferguson Rifle was one of the first breach loaded rifles in British service (and the world) and saw some very limited use in the American Revolutionary War. It was complicated to manufacture, and was 4 times the price of the standard Enfield musket. The rifle was a great improvement over the standard Brown Bess, being able to average 7 rounds a minute compared to the maximum of 4 rounds a minute of the Brown Bess in the hands of a skilled user. However it had a slower fire rate than later breechloaders and repeaters.
