Chapter 27 is a 2007 biographical drama film about Mark David Chapman (Jared Leto), a mentally unstable fan of the Beatles, and what led him to murdering former Beatles member John Lennon (played by Mark Lindsay Chapman; no relation to Mark David Chapman) on the night of December 8, 1980.

Smith & Wesson Model 36

In the film, Mark David Chapman (Jared Leto) carries and uses a Smith & Wesson Model 36. The revolver that was used by Chapman to shoot John Lennon in real life was a Charter Arms Undercover, but the Smith & Wesson Model 36 bears a close enough resemblance to a Charter Arms, and was probably used due to its availability.

Chapman takes out his revolver. Note the S&W-style cylinder latch with textured ridges rear of the screw, not forward as with a Charter Arms revolver.

Mark David Chapman (Jared Leto) points his revolver at the wall, where on the other side are "two obvious homosexuals". This picture shows the ejector rod catch lug that the Smith & Wessons have, unlike older model Charter Arms Undercovers.

Chapman practices shooting John Lennon in front of his hotel room mirror. Once again, the ejector rod catch is clearly visible.
