Volcanic Repeater.
The Volcanic Repeater and the Volcanic Rifle.

The Volcanic Repeater is a very important gun in history, if relatively obscure. Based on the unsuccessful Volcanic Rifle, this was a lever-action pistol designed for target shooting. At the time, all other pistols were black powder. A joint venture led to the creation. The jennings rifle company had Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson working for them, and they teamed up on this pistol. This led to the partnership of Smith and Wesson a year later in 1854. Wesson also wanted to use a modified Flobert cartridge, a patent of a rimfire metallic cartridge. The modification led to the creation of the .22 rimfire. One of the world's largest gun companies and the world's most popular cartridge are here because of this obscure pistol. It was manufactured starting in 1853 in .22RF, and .31 and .41 caliber, but these were unpopular due to their unreliability.
