Max Renn (James Woods) uses a Walther PPK at various points throughout the film.

Max unwraps his new PPK.
While inspecting the PPK, Max accidentaly hits the magzine release, demonstrating is unfamiliarity with guns.
Any explanation as to why the PPK is covered in slime would be pushing the limits of decency.
