Tom of Finland is a 2017 multi-nationally produced film biography directed by Dome Karukoski, who was also responsible for the screenplay together with Aleksi Bardy. The film cinematically depicts the life of Touko Valio Laaksonen. Laaksonen, known by his pseudonym Tom of Finland, was a Finnish artist known for his homoerotic drawings. For the Finn Touko Laaksonen, his return home from the front of World War II does not bring the peace he had hoped for: In his homeland, he cannot openly live out his homosexuality and faces the constant threat of denunciation and prosecution.
