The Killing Fields (1984)

The Killing Fields is a 1984 British war drama directed by Roland Joffe and stars Sam Waterston as Sydney Schanberg, a New York Times journalist who along with his fellow colleague Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor) were witnesses to the rise of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the 1970s. Haing S. Ngor (who himself also endured the real life Killing Fields of Cambodia) would win the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Dith Pran in the film.
