While it is true that the updated Remington 7600 was introduced in 1981, the year of the film's production, it is unlikely that it was the new gun, since the firearm is not seen in any close-up shots so it is unlikely that it was a hero gun, and it was too new for a film appearance, so it is more likely that this is the older Remington 760.

The Howling (1981)

The Howling is a 1981 horror film about a traumatized reporter who goes to a therapeutic retreat colony only to find it populated with dangerous werewolves. Although the film was criticized in other aspects, it was lauded for its ambitious, influential special effects, which go down even today as some of the best, most influential werewolf effects alongside An American Werewolf in London.
