Despite being identical to the original in terms of appearance, the M53 fired at a much more conventional 800 round per minute, although with certain ammunition types it could fired at around 1000 round per minute. This difference was why it was favored and actually made it a bit more manageable to film. I'm not sure if that means that only certain 'MG42s' were original captured German machine guns (ie. Despite being identical to the original in terms of appearance, the M53 fired at a much more conventional 800 round per minute, although with certain ammunition types it could fired at around 1000 round per minute.
