All-told I'm certain the gun is still indeed a Model 686. Compare the 'screen-used' gun image with that of a 66 and it's clear the frame shape and size isn't exactly the same (which would fit). As for the 'note': Early-version 686s featured rounded cylinder releases, and the sights were slightly different. These parts, along with the hammer, are/were shared across several S&W models. There is to my knowledge NO Model 66 made that has a full underlug shroud. Unless it was some (extremely rare) special run, but that's doubtful. All-told I'm certain the gun is still indeed a Model 686. Compare the 'screen-used' gun image with that of a 66 and it's clear the frame shape and size isn't exactly the same (which would fit). As for the 'note': Early-version 686s featured rounded cylinder releases, and the sights were slightly different. These parts, along with the hammer, are/were shared across several S&W models.
