"Note that in real life, holding the weapon in that way, with one hand unprotected on the barrel, would cause severe burns." Certainly not right away as it's a 1919 with a barrel shroud. He's not "unprotected on the barrel" at all.

Certainly have seen folks briefly shoot 1919s like this — and Gen Ripper doesn't fire that much from it at a time. The shroud is thereso crews can pick the gun up to re-position it after sustained fire. Sure they tend to have a glove, rag, or hotpad, but it takes a lot of fire to make it burning hot.

As well as the oddity of US soldiers wielding MP40's I am sure I remember them also in one shot crewing an MG42 as well....

Use of German Weapons

I think the reason they appear in the movie is the possible relative scarcity of the "real thing" while the movie was being filmed. Like most Stanley Kubrick films Strangelove was, other than some stock footage, largely filmed entirely in the UK. Kubrick may have been using whatever was on hand in the UK at the moment. --Charon68 18:49, 20 February 2012 (CST)

That's what I was thinking as well.--Jcordell (talk) 20:25, 31 March 2014 (EDT)

Alternative Ending

The alternative ending involved a massive pie fight. In said deleted clip, Dr. Strangelove has a Luger. Should this be included?--Surv1v4l1st (talk) 22:24, 18 April 2015 (EDT)
