A 2018 anime adaptation of a spinoff of Sword Art Online written by Keiichi Sigsawa (Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World) instead of the franchise's original author, Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online showcases the adventures of Karen Kohiruimaki in the fictional VR MMO Gun Gale Online. Due to being self conscious about her height of 183 centimeters (6 feet), Karen has made her avatar LLENN as small and cute as possible, causing her to inadvertently benefit from a small hitbox.

The FN FAL is seen with the GGO pro team known as Team Narrow in "Squad Jam". Howa Type 64s or Type 89s would be more fitting for a group made up of JASDF airmen using GGO for training evaluation, and the original novels themselves also note that the Type 64 does in-fact exist in the game.  In an ironic twist, Sword Art Online: Alicization later features Klein using a Type 64. The story background suggests that during the events of the Phantom Bullet arc, Zaskar would have implemented firearms with high STR stats. So this would mean that the time the team was deployed, the Type 64 wasn't available.

Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online (2018).

A second season was announced on July 15th 2023.

The following weapons were used in the anime series Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online:

Pistols

Arsenal Firearms Strike One

The Arsenal Firearms Strike One is used by Team SHINC as their sidearm, first seen in the climax of the Squad Jam tournament in "Leave the Last Battle to Me".

Battle Rifles

FN FAL
