Tatum's hillbilly family lives in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. The US government plans to lease the Tatums' land for constructing an ICBM base, and Capt. Robert Salbo gets the order to secure the lease within seven days. Facing resistance from the Tatum family, he requests Jodie's distant cousin, Air Force pilot 2nd Lt.
