Girls' Frontline (2022)

Girls' Frontline is an upcoming anime series (scheduled for release in 2022), produced by Warner Bros. Japan and animated by Asahi Production; it is based on the mobile game of the same name created by MICA Team.

The story takes place in the 2060s, following a series of wars and ecological disasters that have left much of the world in shambles; with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and robotics technology (coupled with a noticeable lack of human manpower), androids called "Dolls" have been pressed into service in many areas, combat in particular - in this role, they are referred to as "Tactical Dolls", or "T-Dolls" for short. Taking place in eastern Europe, the plot centers around Griffin & Kryuger, a Doll-using PMC tasked with combatting the forces of Sangvis Ferri (another PMC whose AI went rogue). Uniquely, each of G&K's T-Dolls uses, is named after, and to some extent personifies a particular real-world firearm; accordingly, the 4 main characters are members of the AR Team.

The following weapons were used in the anime series Girls' Frontline:

Handguns

Colt M1911

What appears to be a Colt M1911 variant of some sort is seen briefly in the official trailer; while only the pistol itself is seen, it is presumably wielded by the T-Doll M1911.

A shot of the M1911 variant from the trailer; note the angular front sight, possibly implying a more modern variant. The distortion effects are authentic; the trailer uses these effects during shot transitions, and this shot of the M1911 only appears briefly, so this is as good as it gets for now.

Nagant M1895

While the revolver itself isn't seen clearly, the T-Doll M1895 appears briefly in the trailer, implying that her Nagant M1895 revolver will likewise appear in the series.

A group of Russian Dolls confront Scarecrow; Nagant M1895 is at the right. Note that there are 3 of each unit present; this is presumably referencing the original game's "Dummy Link" system, where one Doll can control multiple identical bodies.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

The Heckler & Koch MP5A3 makes no appearance whatsoever in the official trailer; however, the T-Doll MP5 makes a fleeting appearance (identified by her shoes), implying that her MP5 will likewise appear in the series.

MP5 opening fire at an approaching group of Dinergates; while the gun itself isn't visible, the rapid shower of pistol-caliber casings and unique shoe design confirm that the weapon in question (or, at least, the Doll in question) is an MP5.

For reference, this is MP5's artwork from the original game. It's not often that we ID a gun by a character's shoe here, but then again, it's not often that the gun IS the character, either.

PPSh-41

The official trailer shows several shots of the T-Doll PPSh-41, armed with her PPSh-41.

PPS-43

The T-Doll PPS-43 makes a brief appearance in the trailer, along with her PPS-43.

Sa vz. 61 Škorpion

The T-Doll Skorpion also appears in the trailer, armed with her Sa vz. 61 Škorpion submachine guns.

Skorpion's initial appearance in the trailer. This is the same picture as PPSh's second, so there's not much else to say here beyond noting the Dolls' excellent trigger discipline.

Assault Rifles

The senior member of the AR Team, M16A1, appears along with her Colt M16A1 in the trailer.

Another promo image, showing the whole AR Team together. This was released before the one above, and seems to represent a slightly earlier iteration of the show's planned art style; notable changes since this image was released include the characters all being scaled somewhat smaller relative to their respective rifles, as well as various minor costume changes - these designs appear to more closely follow the original game's, while the later images take some liberties.

FN FNC Paratrooper

The muzzle of an FN FNC Paratrooper is seen briefly in the trailer; while its wielder isn't shown, it is presumably carried by the T-Doll FNC.

One-can-only-assume-FNC opens fire with her FNC Paratrooper; unfortunately, it appears that the muzzle flash doesn't respect the shape of the flash hider.

Heckler & Koch G36

Alongside the FNC above, the business end of a Heckler & Koch G36 appears in the trailer, presumably wielded by the T-Doll G36.

M4A1 Carbine

The leader of the AR Team, M4A1, is seen with her M4A1 Carbine in both the teaser and reveal trailers.

The clearest shot of the rifle in the trailer, as Agent makes M4A1 resent IOP for creating chokable robots. Unlike the original game, M4A1 runs 30-round magazines in her M4A1 rather than 20-rounders.

M4A1 SOPMOD Block II

The AR Team's designated wild card/loose cannon M4 SOPMOD II appears in the trailers as well, complete with her M4A1 SOPMOD Block II carbine.

Then, to show exactly the sort of person she is, promptly jumps out of it.

SOPMOD smiles at the camera, giving a good look at her rifle's Daniel Defense RIS II handguard; this is the primary defining feature of the SOPMOD Block II upgrade package.

Spike's Tactical 10th Anniversary AR-15

The final member of the AR Team, ST AR-15, is likewise shown in the trailers, armed with her customized, auto-converted Spike's Tactical 10th Anniversary AR-15.

ST AR-15 gives the camera a glare. Note that her rifle's (somewhat excessive) scope is mounted correctly; to compensate for the distance between the scope rings without compromising accuracy/zeroing by putting one on the handguard, both are instead fitted to a raised rail mount on the receiver that extends forward over the handguard without touching it.

Finding herself in an engagement somewhat ill-suited to such a large optic, ST AR-15 dives for cover.

An officially-released promo image of ST AR-15. Like M4A1, she is left-handed in both the show and the original game; unlike the original game, however, she no longer has "SPR" written on her one sock, and her knife is more sensibly stored in a sheath instead of being inexplicably attached to her underwear.

Gewehr 43

The T-Doll G43 appears in the trailer, along with her scoped Gewehr 43.

Two G43 units open fire out a window; it appears that both are simply engaging targets separately, though it's a bit funnier to imagine that G43 is acting as her own spotter.

Mosin-Nagant M91/30

The T-Doll Mosin-Nagant also appears briefly, armed with (presumably) her Mosin-Nagant M91/30 sniper rifle.

Grenade Launchers

M203 Grenade Launcher

In some shots in the trailer (and in some promo images) M4 SOPMOD II's M4A1 SOPMOD Block II is seen fitted with what appears to be an M203A1 Grenade Launcher.

Here's that blurry shot from earlier, reprising its importance; while it isn't the clearest shot, it's apparent that there's something mounted under SOPMOD's carbine's handguard that isn't there in other shots.

And here, in the subsequent shot, it becomes abundantly apparent what; the mounting for the M203 (and part of its barrel) are just visible at the bottom of the frame, while what appears to be a flip-up ladder sight is mounted onto the top of the rifle's handguard.
