Fred Rexer is a former Green Beret who served as a senior technical adviser for the films Apocalypse Now and Red Dawn (1984). In an interview, actor Martin Sheen mentioned that right before he went into the studio to record his narration for Apocalypse Now, Fred gave him an M1911A1 to hold.
