M1 Carbine
Sonny (Al Pacino) swings an M1 Carbine throughout Dog Day Afternoon. Many of the police that surround the bank also carry M1 Carbines.

The SMG that Sal carries is a Smith & Wesson 76 submachine gun which is based on the Swedish Carl Gustav m/45.
