Code Name Coq Rouge (1989)

Code Name Coq Rouge (Täcknamn Coq Rouge) is a 1989 Swedish thriller directed by Per Berglund starring Stellan Skarsgård as Swedish spy Carl Hamilton. It was based on Jan Guillou's novel Coq Rouge, the first in the Hamilton series. The film contains a number of relatively large changes of the plot and characters.

Either party of the Middle East conflict is planning a terror attack in Sweden, the question is who and where. A CIA trained agent - the cover name Coq Rouge - aka Carl Hamilton, a lieutenant in the Royal Swedish Navy, is assigned to the case.

Handguns

Beretta 92F

Carl Hamilton's (Stellan Skarsgård) personal sidearm is a Beretta 92F.

Smith & Wesson Model 19

Carl's other personal sidearm is a snubnosed Smith & Wesson Model 19 with pachmayr grips.

Folkesson, a high ranked SÄPO-officer, is killed with a TT-33 pistol.

Ljungdahl looks at the Tokarev pistol that's been left at the crime scene.
"It's a Russian gun damn it, you said that yourself!", Näslund says to Carl while holding the Tokarev pistol.

Smith & Wesson Model 27

The arab who they find out is conected to Anders Hedlund, who is wrongfully suspected of Folkesson's murder, is seen with a Smith & Wesson Model 27 with a 6 inch barrel. However it is described in dialouge by Carl as a ".44 Magnum".

Walther PPK

SÄPO officers Fristedt (Krister Henriksson) and Appeltoft (Philip Zandén) appear to be carrying Walther PPK pistols as their sidearms.

  • Note: The official sidearm of the swedish police at that time was the model PP.

Submachine Guns

Carl Gustav M/45

Though never clearly shown, the S.W.A.T team who storm the appartment of Anders Hedlund and Petra Hernberg appear to be carrying Carl Gustav M/45s.

An Israeli military officer is seen with what appears to be an IMI Uzi.

An IMI Galil ARM appears in the hands of a man in a photo shown to Carl of the aftermath of a Palestinian terrorist attack.

Also seen in the photo shown to Carl is man carrying an AKMS.

M16A1

An M16A1 rifle appear in the hands of an Israeli soldier walking across the street in one shot. Another Israeli soldier is briefly shown with one slung on his shoulder when he and his superior interferes a meeting between Carl and Shoulamit Hanegbi and escorts Carl to the airport. When Carl later tries to visit Shoulamit at her house she is shown with a rifle aimed to her face.

Norinco Type 56

Most of the PLO guards and the members of the Israeli terrorist group use the Norinco Type 56 assault rifle. Carl liberates one of the PLO guards of his rifle during the meating with Abo Al-Houl.

Armi-Jager AP-80

The boys on the beach use the Armi-Jager AP-80 stand in for a real AKs.

Erik (Gustaf Skarsgård), Carl's nephew is seen with a toy bow and arrow when he and his mother come to visit Carl.
